What is Big City Small World?
Big City Small World is an audio soap opera. Soap opera is a term used to describe a fictional radio or television programme that often follows the lives of a group of people. The storyline for the soap often spans several episodes and each show ends with a promise that the storyline will be continued in the next episode.

Roger: I'm happy you like it. It's for a competition. Here's the form.

Jim: Right. OK, here are the questions.... Your hands are dirty.
Roger: ... from painting! What are the questions? Here's a pen (gives him a pen to fill the form in)

Jim: What's your name?
Roger: oh, that's difficult ... Roger!

Jim: Ha, ha. What's your surname?
Roger: I'm not sure ...

Jim: Very funny! OK, surname - Tailor
Roger: Yes, that's it!

Jim: Next question please. Are you married or single?
Roger: Single. I'm sure about that!

Man: The Chiefs! Do you think they're going to make it to the finals this year?

Woman: I'm not sure. Well, I better get back to my desk.

Man: Speaking of desks, what do you think of the new office furniture?

Woman: It's nice, but I would rather get paid for my overtime hours than have new furniture.

Man: Oh. Well, I think I'll be heading home early today. It might be snow.

Woman: I know. I can't believe all of this cold weather. Hopefully Spring will come soon.

Man: I can't wait until Spring.

Woman: Me neither! My divorce will finally come through by then!

It's Saturday morning and something is happening next door.

Here is a conversation between Mrs Smith (Joan) and her husband Steve.

Joan: Steve, what's all that noise outside?

Steve: Just a minute, I'll have a look. ....... Oh! It looks as if the new next door neighbours are moving in.

Joan: Oh, it's a bit early, isn't it? Ah well I guess we'd better get up.

Steve: It's amazing how quickly the houses are selling round here, the Browns only put it on the market a month ago.

Joan: Where did they move to?

Steve: I think he told me they were buying a detached house in Surbiton.

Joan: Sounds nice. I hope the new neighbours are nice.

Steve: Well, I was speaking with Mr Brown last week. He told me they were a young couple with two daughters. They liked the house because it is near a good school.

Joan: Two daughters! That will please John.

Steve: Ha! Maybe we'd better pop next door and say hello.

Joan: Yes, and maybe we'd better start thinking of selling too. I'd like a detached house in Surbiton as well!

Steve: Hmm.
