ناآشنایی اکثر ایرانیان با زبان انگلیسی

از کلاس دوم راهنمایی تا پایان دبیرستان و دوره پیش دانشگاهی، 6 سال زبان انگلیسی می خوانیم و در دانشگاه نیز همه رشته ها ، زبان انگلیسی عمومی و تخصصی خاص خودشان را دارند. با این حال، وقتی فارغ التحصیل می شویم، اکثرمان از خواندن یک صفحه روزنامه انگلیسی زبان یا 5 دقیقه صحبت کردن با یک فرد خارجی یا نوشتن دو سطر نامه بدون غلط املایی و گرامری به زبان انگلیسی عاجزیم.

جالب و البته تاسف انگیز اینجاست که این ناتوانی علمی، فقط ویژه دیپلمه ها و لیسانس ها نیست بلکه بخش قابل توجهی از کسانی که مدرک دکتری (حتی واقعی) هم دارند، بدین معضل دچارند و نکته اینجاست که برای ورود به دوره دکتری باید انگلیسی را در حد تافل بلد باشند ولی اینکه چگونه حتی بعد از گرفتن دکتری نیز دو کلمه نمی توانند انگلیسی بخوانند و بنویسند و صحبت کنند، از عجایب روزگار است.

Little Kenadie

Kenadie Jourdin-Bromley, known around the world as "the littlest angel", was born Feb.13, 2003, weighing just 2 lbs, 8 ounces.

Doctors were at a loss as to why she was born so small and told her parents this little miracle baby likely wouldn't live through the night. But she did.

She continued to defy doctors expectations and at the age of 8 months, Kenadie was finally diagnosed withprimordial dwarfism, a genetic condition that is believed to affect only about 100 people in the world. She isn't expected to grow past about 30 inches or weigh more than 8 pounds.

But from the day Kenadie was born her parents, Brianne Jourdin and Court Bromley, refused to give up. As they say, "We loved life right into her."

Indeed, they did.

Now 5 years old, Kenadie now walks, runs, laughs, smiles and is beginning to talk. But, perhaps more importantly, it's the way Kenadie makes people feel that is her strongest achievement. Those who come into contact with her invariably believe that they have been touched by God, that somehow this little angel has touched their soul.

She may be small but no one would argue that this little girl has an enormous effect on people throughout the world.

Rice is an important part of many people’s diets. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Massachusetts have released a report about rice. It shows that eating white rice increases the risk of type two diabetes. However, eating brown rice reduces the risk of the disease.

The World Health Organization says more than two hundred twenty million people worldwide have diabetes. Type two diabetes results when the body cannot effectively use the sugar it produces.

Punctuation

The sentence and the full stop

The full stop is the most important punctuation mark. It shows the end of the sentence. The English language also uses capital letters at the beginning of sentences.

For example:

The Caspian Sea has a mean depth of about 170 m and is deepest in the south. Its level varies from year to year but averages about 28 m below sea level. In the 1960s and 1970s the level fell substantially. This was partly because water was withdrawn from tributary rivers for irrigation and other purposes.
